Ringer’s Chapel Entrance, Lincoln Cathedral

Work to the area immediately around the Ringer’s Chapel entrance and porch was started in 1998.

Part of a major project to conserve and restore the whole of the West Front commenced in the early 1990s. Work has not been continuous and is still ongoing, dependent on funding and completion of other restoration projects on the building fabric.

On the Ringer’s section a small team of conservators carried out meticulous stone cleaning and re-pointing. Stone masons and carvers produced and replaced stonework where necessary, such as the two capitals above, and Purbeck stone columns to the rear of the porch either side of the door.
