Photography Installation, The Collection (2005)
A permanent installation located in a lightbox on a stairway in The Collection, displaying five duration prints which explore the construction of The Collection.
Documenting the building of The Collection, images were taken during the construction of the museum between 2003 – 2005. During this time, Gill worked closely with the chief architect from Panter Hudspith Arctitects and he amassed an intimate knowledge of the building, capturing moments in the project’s history providing a valuable insight into the whole building project.
Rather than documenting the development of construction, Gill chose to make pictures within the building space, investigating the changing nature of the emerging space and how it altered as new spaces were formed.
The final artwork contains five images which capture how light reacted with the materials on site: water, concrete, plastic, wood and metal. Extreme close ups to more distant shots indicate the constant state of flux of the evolution of the building
