A View of Lincoln from Drury Lane (1886)

M Clouse

A view of a busy residential street, there are numerous figures, a milk man talking at the gate with a maid, children playing hoop in the street.

A well dressed girl walks with her nurse, a gentleman on his way and men standing chattering on the corner. The whole painting gives a pleasant scene of a prosperous area of town in the 1880’s. The local topography is clearly depicted with the Observatory Tower of Lincoln Castle and the Cathedral serving as a backdrop.
